A Dog’s Guide to Living in Stamford & Rutland

Written by Bramble, Willow & Stone Properties’ four-legged team member.

Hello! I’m Bramble, and whilst I may not know much about mortgages, conveyancing or negotiating house prices, I do know a thing or two about good walks.

One of the things I love most about living around Stamford and Rutland is that there are so many fantastic places to stretch your legs, sniff a few trees and hopefully find a muddy puddle or two!

Why Stamford & Rutland is such a great place for dog owners

From the Stamford Meadows and the River Welland to the countryside surrounding villages such as Uffington, Easton-on-the-Hill, Ketton, Tinwell and Ryhall, there are endless opportunities to get out and explore.

And then there's Rutland Water, where miles of countryside, woodland and waterside paths make it a fantastic destination for a longer walk.

Whether you have a lively spaniel who needs tiring out, a Labrador who thinks every puddle is an invitation or a little dog who prefers a gentle stroll, there is something for everyone.

My top tip: discover Will’s Walks

If you're looking for inspiration for your next adventure, one of my favourite local resources is Will’s Walks.

Created by local author Will Hetherington, Will’s Walks covers walks throughout Stamford, Rutland and the surrounding villages, with plenty of useful information for dog walkers and anyone wanting to discover more of the countryside on their doorstep.

It's a brilliant reminder that you don't necessarily need to travel miles to find somewhere beautiful to explore.

A walk with a view

One of the wonderful things about this part of the world is the variety of landscapes.

You can start your morning walking along the River Welland in Stamford, head into the countryside around Easton-on-the-Hill, explore the lanes and footpaths around Ketton, or spend a few hours discovering the countryside around Rutland Water.

There are rolling fields, woodland, rivers, historic villages and plenty of places where you can stop and admire the view.

Of course, I prefer the places where I'm allowed off the lead!

The perfect place for a dog

For me, a great home isn't just about what's inside the front door.

It's also about what's outside it.

Living somewhere with easy access to countryside and walking routes can make a huge difference to everyday life — particularly when your dog expects a walk regardless of the weather!

That's one of the things that makes Stamford, Rutland and the surrounding villages such desirable places to live. You can enjoy beautiful countryside while still being close to excellent amenities, independent shops, cafés, restaurants and everything else you need.

Why this matters when you're buying a home

For many buyers, access to outdoor space and countryside is becoming an increasingly important consideration when choosing where to live.

A property might have the perfect kitchen, beautiful gardens and fantastic bedrooms, but knowing that you can step outside and be walking through the countryside within minutes can be just as valuable.

For dog owners especially, being able to combine a lovely home with an excellent choice of walks can make a location feel even more special.

At Willow & Stone Properties, we're passionate about showcasing not just the homes we sell, but the places and communities surrounding them.

Because buying a home isn't just about the property — it's about finding somewhere where you can enjoy your everyday life.

Bramble's final thoughts

So, if you're thinking about moving to Stamford, Rutland or one of the surrounding villages, my advice is simple:

Bring your walking boots. And your dog.

There are paths to discover, fields to explore, rivers to follow and plenty of new smells waiting around the next corner.

And if you happen to find a particularly good stick along the way, well... even better.

Happy walking!
